You know what sucks
Camping in the rain.
Kid #1 is camping for Cub Scouts this weekend and it has been an interesting time weather-wise. Before the boys left yesterday we had a tornado or two sighted in our area. One was basically across the highway from the camp. Lovely.
Then today I pack up the mini-van and venture out to the other side of the county to watch my baby "crossover" to a Webelo Scout and BAM. Tornadoes again! This time they weren't too close, but we did get some craptastic thunderstorms while we were there.
Nothing is better than huddling with 150 people you don't really know under a pavilion that, under normal circumstances, would be big enough for everyone. However, when it's pouring in sideways you end up on top of each other in the very middle to attempt to stay dry.
Did I ever tell you Kid #2 is a whiner? She's just like me. It's sickening. She cried because there was rain. She cried because we couldn't go back to the tent. She cried because she "wasn't done frowing rocks in the lake." This got Big Daddy all up in arms about us going home (and missing the ceremony!).
Needless to say, I was not pleased. But for the little ones' safety and all that crap I loaded them back up in the mini-van and drove alllllll the way back home.
Stupid weather. I missed a free meal because of it. I missed seeing my bitty boy (okay he's 4'9" and 85lbs, not exactly bitty, but your first born is always special like that) crossover in his Crossover Ceremony. I missed the campfire and s'mores.
I know going home was the best thing, but damn it sucks. Even as I sit here and stare out at the freaking BLACK sky and PRAY that my boys are safe at camp, I am still sad.
