Breastfeeding
I'm still breastfeeding Kid #4. He's 18 months old. He's not going to stop anytime soon and truthfully, I don't want him to. He likes it. I like that it's something we can share together that no one else can.
When I checked into the E.R. on Wednesday, the triage nurse went through the regular questions. She got to the "when was your last menstrual period" one and I jokingly said "I have no idea, it's been so long." She looked at me and said "What a hysterectomy?"
"Oh no," I replied, "I'm just still breastfeeding and I have an IUD so I'm not pregnant or anything."
She asked me how old my baby is and I told her. She then gasped and said "Wow! You do know that they can like drink milk, right?" I was not in a real lets-throw-down type of mood because I was in pain so I wasn't snotty back like I wanted to be. I just said "Yeah, I know, and he does."
HER "So when are you planning on weaning him?"
ME "Whenever he weans."
HER "Well don't they say like 12 months..."
ME "Well the World Health Organization recommends 2 years..."
HER "That's ridiculous! The World Health Organization? Really?"
ME "Yes, really."
It drives me insane that in this day and age when they [health care professionals] should be promoting breastfeeding, they mock it and ostracize those who decide to do it. It's natural. It's healthy. It's the way humans were designed. Why do I have to become this fucking crazy crusader every time this is brought up? Why can't it just be common knowledge? It's not even new stuff. People having been eating this way FOREVER!

Why is it these situations always occur when you aren't in the mood for a fight?
I say they are your boobs, your kids, and it is your time. It is her problem if she can't wrap her head around the fact that not everybody makes the same decisions as her.
